Good Steward Cattle Company is committed to raising our chickens in a healthy and humane environment. Our chickens are moved to fresh grass each and every day and are fed only non-GMO feed. We never add steroids, anti-biotics or growth accelerating hormones to their diet. Our chickens are housed in "chicken tractors" that are moved each day to a fresh patch of grass where they can eat all the grass they want and forage on all the buggies that hide there. The chicken tractor protects them from predators as well as providing shade during the day.
The feed we provide comes from the fine folks at Sunrise Farms in Virginia and is an all natural, non-GMO product. GMOs, or “genetically modified organisms,” are plants or animals created through the gene splicing techniques of genetic engineering, nothing natural about this at all! I encourage you to visit their website to learn more about GMO's as well as doing your own research on what goes into the food that is massed produced by the "superfarms" of today. Their concern for the bottom line far outweighs their concern for producing a quality and humanely raised product.
Our commitment and promise to you, is that we will strive each and every day, to be good stewards of this land and the animals that are raised upon it. Whether for our own consumption or product that we sell to the greater community, you have our word that we will provide a safe and healthy environment for all living things, great and small, that reside here at Good Steward Cattle Company.

The chicken tractor! Our chickens are housed here for up to 12 weeks and it is designed to be moved every day to fresh grass, notice the wheels!. The 5 gallon bucket on top stores water for the birds and they are fed non-GMO grain every morning and every evening. During the day, they eat down the fresh grass and forage for any and all buggies that may be hiding in the grass. They especially like looking for the crickets! When one chicken finds one, everybody wants in on the action!! Mayhem ensues as the chicken with the cricket tries to eat on the run!! (There's a song in that last statement somewhere! Chicken with a cricket....hmmmm)
This method of housing has also cut down on the mowing of this area as well as eliminating any need for fertilizer!

Our chickens are a breed known as Freedom Rangers and they come to us at 2 days old from Pennsylvania. They are moved into the chicken tractors at about 3 weeks old and live outside in the sunshine and fresh air. The tractors also protect them from inclement weather and predators as well. They are very active and hearty and the meat is delicious and tender. They typically reach processing weight at about 6-7 weeks and are usually around 3-3.5 lbs. We do all the processing here at the farm with USDA approved equipment and standards and our birds are packaged in a non-BPA shrink bag and will remain fresh for months in the freezer with little or no freezer burn. The difference in our product and what you get at the store, is amazing. We guarantee it! If we wouldn't eat it, we wouldn't sell it!

Chickens on the hunt for a cricket!! Fresh grass and sunshine every day makes happy chickens!
The 2015 chicken season is now underway! We have 50 chickens ready to go to pasture! If all goes well, we will process 25 on March 28th and 25 more on April 4th. From that point on, we plan on processing 25 chickens every other week. We thank all of you who bought from us in 2014 and we look forward to serving you again in 2015. Our chickens are moved to fresh pasture grass each day and are fed a non-GMO feed from Sunrise farms in Verginia. We never add hormones, anti-biotics or growth stimulating steroids. Our chickens are happy chickens and enjoy sunshine and fresh air every day. Remember, we stand behind our product and your satisfaction is guaranteed. If we won't eat it, we won't sell it!
Blessings and Peace to you all!
